* like all my songs, nothing here was planned. Random drum tracks, layered. Random bass and guitar lines. Pure Chaos.
Wilmer and Taff*- the "Dow Now Now" aka "Wilmer's Band"
|
Andy was the guitar player in the first real band I ever played in—back when I had just gotten my first bass and amp, a few months before my Bar Mitzvah.
I’d received some early birthday money and made a beeline to a music store in Santa Monica. I came home grinning with a black Fender Mustang bass and a 50-watt Peavey TNT amp, feeling like the king of the world. Two days later, at school, Andy (guitar) and John Wilmer (drums) came up to me and asked if I wanted to join their band as the bass player. I protested—I’d literally just bought the thing, I didn’t really know how to play. But Andy waved it off with a smirk: “Don’t worry. I’ll show you what to do... it’s easy.” We rehearsed in John’s garage, which happened to be next door to a man who was deaf. Didn’t stop him from complaining, though—he’d send someone over to try to shut us down. Why? Because the bass was shaking the walls of his house. And these were not small houses. PS - Just writing the Title to this makes me want to actually record Dow Now Now, the only song original song we had, Andy wrote it. I might just try it... but there's no copying his smoking leads.... |
