My Sword Intro and Table of Contents
My Sword and My Bow (the title is multiple plays on words)
This a short book which gives essentially a synopsis of the Torah as I see it, so as to make more practical the understanding of its most fundamental theme, that of loving your neighbor, and the blessings that flow from there.
My Sword and My Bow - the source for the title is the verse in Genesis. Ya'akov describes his purchase of part of Israel (Shechem) with "my sword and my bow." (See Rashi there)
Bow means something which shoots arrows, but pronounce it slightly differently and you get the action that symbolises prayer, as in when we bow before the Almighty. Bow with humility and it sends your prayers heavenward. Lest your words become trapped behind the iron wall of your ego.
My words and my prayer form the basis of my personal theology, which is only from my impression of Torah sources.
Also, I tend to see Torah in unlikely places.
